Labour Government Delivers Historic Win for Renters as the Renters’ Rights Bill Becomes Law

The Labour Government has this week delivered on a cornerstone promise to Britain’s renters, as the Renters’ Rights Bill officially becomes law — ushering in a new era of fairness, security and dignity for millions of people who rent their homes across the UK.

For too long, renters have faced insecurity, poor conditions, and the constant threat of unfair eviction. As of this week, that all changes. The new law will ban Section 21 ‘no-fault’ evictions, strengthen protections against exploitative landlords, and ensure renters can finally call their house a home without fear or instability.

The Renters’ Rights Bill will End no-fault evictions, ensuring tenants can’t be removed without a legitimate reason. It will Introduce stronger standards for housing quality, requiring landlords to keep properties safe, warm and free from damp or mould. It will Establish a National Landlord Register, increasing accountability and transparency across the private rented sector.

The Bill will cap unfair rent increases, protecting families from being priced out of their communities, and also empower local councils with greater enforcement powers to tackle rogue landlords.

“Our historic Act marks the biggest leap forward in renters’ rights in a generation. We are finally ending the injustice overseen by previous governments that has left millions living in fear of losing their homes.
